It is my pleasure to welcome you to our wonderful bilingual school, Christmas Park. We are a small community school with so much to offer! Last year we adopted an innovative approach designed to help our students learn in a safe and caring environment. We call it S’Park. S’Park is all about sparking children to learn through hands-on engaging learning opportunities. Last year we began this approach by maximizing the use of our beautiful outdoor surroundings. Our students spent time enjoying the outdoors, they used their environment to learn math concepts, they planted a garden, they explored and learned science through outdoor activities. This year we are adding a new component to S’Park by implementing a Future Ready philosophy that embraces an approach to learning that involves the use of technology to create, to become critical consumers of information and to share student learning to an authentic audience.
Our students with the support of their teachers, will have opportunities to learn concepts through, robotics, iPads, Chromebooks, building with Lego, learning to code with Little Bits and Lego Wedo and so much more. They will be able to share and document their learning by creating videos, screencasts, blogging and using their class Twitter account. Our innovative approach is a solid marriage between using technology as a tool for learning, maximizing our outdoor environment combined with approaches to teaching that are tried and true.
We are located in Beaconsfield with a view of the water. Our students enjoy the wooded area next to us for walks, as well as, a place to enjoy the tranquility. We have a large play area for our students, a park, baseball field, soccer field, skating rink and tennis in the spring, all with the support of the City of Beaconsfield.
At Christmas Park we believe that children learn best in an environment that is supportive and encouraging. Children learn through exploring, following their interests, having time for play, hands on activities, and building. We take great pride in developing children who take initiative and voice their opinions on their own learning.
We believe in developing the leaders of tomorrow by allowing our students to be active participants in their learning.
