Disney’s The Lion King Jr. is playing at Christmas Park School, starting with an evening performance at 7:00 p.m. on May 18th and a matinée at 10:00 a.m. with a second evening performance on May 19th at 7:00 p.m. The price for admission is $5.00.
The musical is based on the Broadway production directed by Julie Taymor and the 1994 Disney film. The cast contains 50 students from grades 3 to 6, led by Maria Martinez, Susan Vertolli, Kerstin Brand, Ina Gray, Camilla Gerdin, Celia Joslin and Barbara Viola, who have worked with the students since the beginning of January to prepare for this production.
The Lion King JR. tells the story of the epic adventures of a curious cub named Simba,
as he struggles to accept the responsibilities of adulthood and his destiny as king. Along
the way, the young lion encounters a colorful cast of characters including spunky
lioness Nala, charismatic meerkat Timon, and lovable warthog Pumbaa. To claim his
rightful place on the throne and save his beloved Pridelands, Simba must find his inner
strength and confront his wicked Uncle Scar and his gang of mischievous hyenas. The Lion King JR. features classic songs from the 1994 film such as “Hakuna Matata” and the Academy Award ® -winning “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” as well as additional songs penned for the Broadway production.
The cast and crew have worked very hard to prepare for this show, learning lines, songs, choreography along with building and painting the sets. We are thankful to parents and Ms. Sandra Reynard, who has volunteered her time and materials to make our costumes, We are all very excited to present the Lion King Jr. to you, and hope that you enjoy this epic musical.
