Registration

In the following paragraphs we will review the most common situations that allow a child to receive instruction in English.

There are other situations which would allow a child to obtain eligibility. The Lester B. Pearson School Board can help you to determine if your child(ren) is (are) eligible to attend an English school. Contact our Admissions Office at 514-422-3022 for more information.

Registration Criteria

The Certificate of Eligibility is generally issued when one of the following conditions is fulfilled:
  • The child’s parent holds a Certificate of Eligibility and that parent is a Canadian citizen
  • The child’s sibling holds a Certificate of Eligibility and one parent is a Canadian citizen
  • The child’s parent is a Canadian citizen and that parent received the majority of his/her elementary schooling in English in Canada
  • The child’s parent is a Canadian citizen and their child has received or is receiving elementary or secondary instruction in English in Canada. That instruction constitutes the major part of the elementary or secondary instruction received by the child in Canada.

Furthermore

For 4-Year-Old Kindergarten, the child must be 4 years of age on or before September 30th

For 5-Year-Old Kindergarten, the child must be 5 years of age on or before September 30th

For Grade 1, the child must be 6 years of age on or before September 30th

Required Documents for Registration

  • Child’s Original Long Form Birth Certificate (contains parents’ names)
  • Certificate of English Eligibility for child, parent or sibling (if available)
  • Parent’s Proof of Canadian Citizenship (Birth Certificate or Valid Passport or Canadian Citizenship card)
  • Proof of Residency (Driver’s License, Quebec Child Tax Benefit Statement, Income Tax return Revenue Québec)
  • Child’s Medicare Card
  • Copy of your child’s vaccination booklet
